The northern coast of Sonoma County is dominated by the presence of Sea Ranch ? an exclusive subdivision that triggered the political battles for coastal access in the early 1970?s. Out of these battles emerged Proposition 20 and the California Coastal Commission. Of immediate interest to the walker was the political compromise resulting in some 3 miles of bluff-top trail leading from Gualala Point Regional Park to Walk On Beach. Your walk will be highlighted by spectacular ocean views and glimpses of contemporary homes built in the award winning Sea Ranch style. However, at Walk On Beach you must abandon the bluff top and head easterly to Highway 1. [Jon Breyfogle]
